KY team. The 2008 NWBA Division III National Champions. The
Hill defeated the Port City Spokesmen 64 - 54 for the title. This is the first
national title for the Hill on Wheels. Joe Wittkamp of Jackson Ohio,

MVP award.
Once again Ohio State Fair
will host the 2cd Annual Wheelchair Sports Games.
...and we are currently drafting
both youth and adult athletes to compete at the Ohio State Fair on
Sunday, August 10, 1-5pm at the
new Sports Center Building.
In 2007 the Ohio Wheelchair
Sports Association Buckeye Wheelers, Moraine Minutemen Basketball
teams and the Buckeye Blitz Quadriplegic Rugby Team showcased their
individual and team skills, along with their intense competitiveness, to
entertain, even awe a crowd of Ohio State Fair-goers. The Ohio Roller Girls
served as our celebrity guest officials, and notable corporate donors such
as Capital City Ice, CocaCola, Columbus Prescription Pharmacies, and Varment
Guard Environmental Services helped make it all happen. Officials of the
Ohio Expo Center were so impressed they invited the games to return in '08.
Do you know of a team or an
individual athlete who would like to participate? Please refer them to
Jim Coe, of the Columbus Advisory Committee on Disability Issues at (614)

We want to congratulate both Tim Kazee and Gary Blosser
on their induction into the NWBA hall of fame. Both honorees are members
of the OWSA - Ohio Wheelchair Sports Hall of Fame
.News from the NWBA:
Hall of Fame class announced
The following individuals, via the vote of the NWBA Hall of Fame Committee, have
been deemed worthy of the NWBA’s highest honor, selection to the Hall of Fame.
COMPETITORS
Tim Kazee:
Author of some of the greatest plays in the history of the game, plays that
prompted many NWBA aficionados to compare him to the greatest who have
played the sport of wheelchair basketball. A master of the dramatic steal
executed from Arkansas’ triangle-and-two defense, Kazee led the Arkansas
Rollin’ Razorbacks to 11 straight NWBTS, winning 5, in 1991, 1993, 1994,
1996 and 2000. He earned first-team, all- tournament status in ten of those
years, and second team once. He was the MVP in 1991, 1993, and 1994. Tim was
selected to represent the U.S. on Gold-Cup teams in 1990, 1994 and 1998,
winning 2 silvers and a gold. He played on the U.S. Paralympic teams in 1992
and 1996, garnering a gold medal followed by a bronze in Atlanta in 1996.
NON-COMPETITORS
Gary Blosser:
Served the NWBA as a coach, assistant commissioner and classifier for 20
years in the 1970s and 1980s. He organized and coached the Columbus Buckeye
Wheelers in 1971, a strong team that won regional titles in 1976, 1977 and
1978. As Chairman of the NWBA’s Classification Committee from 1978 to 1990,
he was primarily responsible for organizing the first workshops devoted to
teaching classification. As a result, he frequently volunteered to travel
throughout the U.S. training classifiers and evaluating players. He guided
the NWBA through difficult changes in the classification system, resolving
countless problems. Blosser symbolizes the type of varied and total
voluntary devotion to wheelchair basketball that lies at the heart of the
NWBA.

Dempsey/Gray Paralympic Winners
From USA Table Tennis Not only are
Columbus, Ohio Clubmates Dempsey/Gray U. S. Open winners, but they’ll go on, as
Lyn Doudna tells us (TTT, July-Aug., 1973, 24), to triumph at the
Paralympics held at Stoke-Mandeville, England (near London). Mike, the
Gahanna-Lincoln High senior, will win the Men’s Class 4 World’s Singles
Championship from Israel’s Haigai, the titleholder “for the past eight years.”
He’ll also partner his friend and former mentor John, the electronic technician
at OSU’s Dodd Hall, to bring home the Men’s Class 4 World’s Doubles
Championship, downing an Israeli pair, 3-1 in the final. “This is the first time
in the 21-year history of Paralympic competition that U.S. competitors have won
gold medals in table tennis.” Follow the link to read more from the book: by Tim Boggan
