Mid-America Wheelchair Basketball
Conference
From: Rick Carpenter
Subject: MAWBC 2006-2007 Season Wrap Up
Date: March 29, 2007
Hello everyone,
As another season comes to a close I hope those all that participate enjoyed
their season. We had some great games with locally hosted double
headers, our conference tourney and especially at nationals. Ft Wayne
seemed to have all of our numbers by winning the conference tournament and
placing 3rd at DIII Nationals. You guys played very well as did all of
our teams, hopefully next year we can all do even better. We had 4 teams at
nationals representing the MAWBC here is the rankings from the
conclusion of the season: Fort Wayne Bandits 3rd, Moraine Minutemen 4th, Columbus
Buckeyes 7th and Cleveland Cavaliers 27th.
At the annual meeting for DIII the most notable topics was
that our new DIII Chairman is Roger Davis Jr and James Terpenning has accepted
the DIII MidAtlantic Committee Member position. Congratulations Roger and
James I'm sure you will serve the conference well.
Want to thank Cleveland again for being gracious host and for funding our
conference tournament. If it weren't for the bathroom incident I think we
all would agree that the two weekends worked out very well. Was
sorry to not see Lafayette not being able to make the second weekend but
sometimes uncontrollable circumstances take precedent. Personal note to
Eric - tell your guys to get flu shots next year :)

Congratulations Ft Wayne on a great win in triple overtime at our conference
tournament and Nate for picking up the MVP and Sportmanship awards.
Looking towards our annual summer meeting there are a few things
I would like everyone to keep in mind.
- Date / Time for MAWBC Summer Meeting
- Location / Dates / Funding of Conference Tournament.
- Speculation of West Virgina and Toledo will be
rejoining the conference.
- Conference Dues
- Cause Marketing Sponorship
- Inter-conference Game Scheduling
- Referee's being qualified for post season. Expenses
Our Moraine team is currently still practicing and
participating in exhibitions / fund raisers at local schools and working
with the University of Dayton to promote wheelchair basketball. Hopefully
all of our team rep's are thinking the same and promoting the sport in the off-season
as well.
We are going to try to hold a couple more of the single day
double header games this summer. If any teams are interested please
contact James for scheduling. We held three of these games over this season
and seemed to benefit both teams economically by saving on hotel cost plus we
also got some great comments from the local community.
That's all I have for now if there is any questions or concerns about our
conference please contact me or any of the other officers and we will try to
address them.
I would also like for everyone to please reply to this email with
your current contact infomation. Please REPLY ALL so everyone has
your team name, team representative, email and phone.
See you at the summer meeting.
Best Regards,
Rick Carpenter
