OWSA is proud to continue the partnership of OWSA and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department with the Paralympics to further develop wheelchair sports programs. Paralympics is a national nonprofit effort to develop sports training, competitions, summer camps, leadership training and recreational opportunities for youth and adults with spinal cord injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, muscular dystrophy, amputation, visual impairment or blindness as well as other physical disabilities. The Adaptive Fitness program, a collaborative effort from the Children's Hospital, YMCA of Central Ohio and Columbus Recreation and Parks -Therapeutic Recreation program. Designed for the physically and visually impaired, these sessions provide individualized exercised programs. These sessions are not a rehabilitation protocol, rather it aims to teach the participants skills that will allow the use of fitness facilities. The participants are taught proper technique to safely apply new skills to wide variety exercise equipment.
